Art McAlonan

Qualified from the Royal Veterinary College London in 1996. He began his career in mixed practice in Staffordshire, then moved to a farm animal only practice in Cheshire.The opportunity to be integral in the formation of FarmVets SouthWest in 2006 was too good to miss and thus Art moved to the West Country. He is keen to continue the development of FarmVets SouthWest into an excellent, affordable practice for the farmers of Somerset and East Devon.

Art was a founding member of FarmVets SouthWest in 2008

David Taylor

 

David Taylor 

Qualified in 1998 from the Royal Veterinary College, London. He initially worked in mixed practice in Devon and then farm only in Wiltshire. He set up his own company in 2005 where he was sole veterinarian in charge of a few very large milking herds. This gave him great experience and knowledge of managing large dairy herds, which has been of much benefit to FarmVets SouthWest. 
 
David joined the partnership in 2010.

Eoghan McAlonan

Eoghan graduated from Glasgow Vet School in 2004 and started working on the farm side of a large mixed practice in the Derbyshire Peak district. He mainly works out of the Ilminster and Yarcombe branches and enjoys a pro-active role in the management of dairy and beef farms. 

He joined the partnership in 2012.

Matthew Swanborough

Matt joined the practice in 2014 after graduating from Bristol Vet School. Whilst keen to get involved with all aspects of cattle medicine he has a particular interest in herd herd level lameness control. Away from work Matt enjoys cycling and plays baseball with the Taunton Muskets

Stephen Hazelton

 

Steven Hazelton


Stephen is originally from a suckler and sheep farm in Northern Ireland. He has graduated from Glagow Vet School. Stephen is interested in all aspects of farm practice, especially herd health.  Outside of work he enjoys playing football and swimming.

Niall Watkins
 
Niall qualified in 2014 from Onderstepoort, University of Pretoria, in South Africa. He started his veterinary career in the Kwazulu Natal Midlands, one of South Africa’s biggest dairy farming regions, as a large animal veterinarian. He then spent a year in mixed rural practice in East Griqualand, South Africa, before moving to Somerset to join Farmvets Southwest.
Niall’s veterinary interests lie predominantly in dairy and beef herd production. Away from work, he enjoys spending as much time as possible outdoors, especially throwing a line if there's a river nearby

Carlos Magias

Carlos Megias (Known as Charlie), graduated form University of Santiago de Compostela  in Spain.  He has been working in the UK for the last 2 years as a large animal vet. He has an interest in all things bovine and also enjoys working with sheep.  When he is not at work he likes camping and driving his campervan to visit new places

David Jackson VetMed MRCVS

Originally from the South West, David studied Veterinary Medicine at the Royal Veterinary College in London. He returned to the Somerset in 2008 to start his vet career in a traditional Mixed Practice. He has been running a specialist large animal practice since he started working with Candido in 2012. David has a special interest in adapting the vet's role to keep up with the ever-changing farming industry

Originally from Madrid, Spain, Candido has worked as a cattle vet for the last 20 years.  Four years ago, after a number of years in Spain, Ireland and Brazil, Candido decided to return to the UK. He has a particular interest in cattle fertility, healthy calf production, herd health planning, advisory work and facilitating change on farm, always focusing on famer-vet relationships.
